Rewarding staff

Keeping your staff motivated, driven and enthusiastic at all times can be costly and exhausting. Whilst everyone always tries to employ people with the self drive, life can get in the way and sometimes a little boost from management can make all the difference to an employee’s motivation.

There are simple things that you can do to show that your employees are a valued part of your company:

  • Compliment a member of staff on the excellent work they have completed.
  • Thank the employee for their dedication, time and effort
  • Show the team or individual employee the outcome from their hard work and explain how they've contributed to a company's achievement.

All of the above takes no time at all and costs you nothing! You would not believe how this effort from Management can make a difference to your workforce!

  • It will create an enjoyable environment for your employees
  • It promotes happier more productive employees, meaning more profit for your business.
  • It results in a coherent team working towards the same goal.

However, there are times that an employer does need to recognise that salaries are an important part of the reason we all go to work, and as the cost of living in certain areas of Australia becomes more expensive we also need to recognise that salaries must increase and compliment this.

As a recruiter, I'm sometimes given a wish list of requirements that a candidate MUST have yet the client will pay a salary that is below market rate. Recruiting this role then becomes an almost impossible task.

I believe in quality not quantity! Therefore, when I interview a candidate I'm looking for their personal qualities that they can offer my clients. Their drive, self motivation, work ethics and strengths. These are attributes that the candidate has naturally and NOT characteristics that can be taught, however there could be other things on your wish list that they could be trained on.

A perfect example of this is a Telesales or Sales Consultant role.  Picking up the phone and making outbound cold calls can be a daunting experience for many people and one not to be repeated however for others it's a walk in the park.  Give these candidates a chance to shine in this role! You've got to train them on your products so at the same time train them on making an outbound call and reward them with a good bonus structure.
